Lake Hood Policy on Closed Days

1. Application for Closure

Any organization wishing to hold an event at Lake Hood must provide the following details to support their application.

  • Name of organization
  • Contact person and details
  • Type of event
  • Number of participants expected
  • Date and hours of closure or restriction

This information is to be sent to:
The Secretary
Lake Hood Management Committee
C/ Heather Sim,
No 6 RD, Ashburton.

NB. All applications must be considered by the Management Committee and no approval can be given before this takes place. To assist with forward planning, all applications should be made prior to August 31st each year. In this way, the committee has an overall view of the events that are being planned for the coming season and a calendar of events can be successfully organized. Please note: a full closure is a privilege, not a right. Groups should not ask for full closures unless it is absolutely necessary for their event.

2. Committee discussion

Applications will be considered at the next committee meeting, or, if there is no meeting scheduled, an agreement may be reached by emailing the committee.

The decision will be made as to whether the event requires a full closure, a partial closure or a booking.

3. Letter of confirmation/ declination

A letter of confirmation stating dates and hours of closure will be sent to successful applicants. It will also inform the group of their responsibilities during the closure.

The secretary will email/post a copy of the decision to

  • The Applicant
  • The Lake Hood website
  • The Ashburton District Council noticeboard

Groups who have gained a full or partial closure are required to advertise it in the Guardian at least 7 days prior to the event. They must also put up signage at the road entrance to Lake Hood and at the boat ramp advising boaties that there is an event in progress on a particular area of the lake.
